Players Code of Conduct.

Kelvedon and Feering Cricket Club is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for all children and adults regardless of age, sex, colour or creed to play and enjoy the game of cricket. In return the club expects all of its players to conduct themselves in a reasonable manner at all times and in particular to follow the basic code of conduct adopted by the club.

Players must:

  • refrain from the use of bad language;
  • not abuse other players in a derogatory manner by making reference to their sex, race, colour or creed, or use any other reference that might be construed as offensive;
  • not show dissent or cause offence towards anyone or at any times when at the club or when representing the club;
  • not smoke, use drugs or drink alcohol at times when it is likely to bring the good name of the club into disrepute (eg on the playing area or during training sessions);
  • be aware that it is illegal to use any substances not permitted by the governing body and make every effort to co-operate with any officials of the ECB or other official agencies conducting any drug screening programmes;
  • make every effort when representing the club to wear predominantly white when on the field of play;
  • make every effort to be punctual for all training sessions and matches;
  • must not knowingly or maliciously undertake any acts that might cause injury to any person except those that occur naturally as a part of the game;
  • must adhere to the club's policy on Health and Safety;
  • must wear all the requisite protective clothing when playing hard ball cricket in line with the ECB and ECCB directives on protective clothing.

No player under the age of 18 will be permitted to bat in a game or training session when a hard ball is being used unless they are wearing a helmet.

All junior wicket keepers will be required to wear a helmet when standing up to the wicket in a hardball match. In addition all junior keepers up to the age of 12 will be required to wear a helmet at all times when keeping in hard ball cricket. Older juniors may be permitted to dispense with wearing a helmet, when standing back, at the discretion of the coaches or team managers.

Junior players must not use the nets unsupervised unless they have received permission to do so by one of the club officials.

All junior teams must comply to the ECB directives on fast bowling and fielding or any other directive introduced by the ECB.

All adult teams must comply to the ECB directives on fast bowling, fielding or any other directive introduced by the ECB when selecting junior club members to play in their team.

Any behaviour or actions that are deemed contrary to the spirit of cricket and/or detrimental to the Club will be dealt with accordingly.

Any player found to be offending against the club code of conduct will be required to attend a disciplinary hearing that will be made up of at least three members of the Executive Committee of the Club that will usually include the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the club. The decision of any such hearing will be binding upon all players.

It is the intention of the club to review their policy on Code of Conduct from time to time and make any amendments that are deemed necessary. Any such amendments will be conveyed to the players at the earliest opportunity. A copy of the Players Code of Conduct will be displayed on the club notice board along with copies of all the relevant ECB directives.

Selection Policy

ADULT TEAM SELECTION POLICY

The aim of the Club is to provide suitable levels of cricket for all players with an emphasis towards developing First Team Squad excellence. In order to achieve this, the Club endorses a selection policy used and overseen by committee comprising of:

  • Chairman of Selectors
  • Club Coach
  • Team Captains

This group will:

  • Meet on a regular weekly basis where possible
  • Select fairly based on the Club’s Selection Policy
  • Pick the strongest available teams from the First Team Squad
  • Strive to provide playing opportunities for all Playing Members
  • Be seen to be open and honest and provide regular feedback to players

The Chairman of Selectors will lead the meetings, ensuring selection policies are endorsed and will report any failure of process or other concerns to the Club’s Main Committee. The incumbent will also be available to answer any concerns regarding selection policy from members or recommend a full hearing from the Selection Committee at one of the regular meetings.

Selection Criteria for League Cricket

Each player will be reviewed for selection based on:

  • Must be a Club member
  • Good availability and commitment to play regularly
  • Timely availability notification to the Club
  • Performance in recent games
  • Skill level
  • Commitment to training
  • Development potential
  • Skill requirement to achieve a balanced team
  • A player’s ability to contribute positively

Meeting the above criteria is expected for regular league cricket although no player can be absolutely guaranteed a game. Also a willingness to accept movement between teams based on the Club’s requirements is expected after provision of an explanation to the individual.

First Team Squad

  • The first team squad should be viewed as a combination of PDQ/Two Counties first and second teams from whom the Club will draw for team selection based on the selection criteria
  • Selection for the first team should be considered a recognition of outstanding performance, commitment and contribution with an expectation that this standard can be and is maintained
  • Experience shows that a core first team will develop during a season with it's size varying. These are players who are continually outstanding in their respective roles and therefore their names are first on the team sheet when available
  • The core first team players if available should be selected for all first team games irrespective of league or day
  • Non core selection for the first team may be on an ad hoc basis, based on the first team requirement at that time. This may mean players are asked to play first team for irregular games to fulfil a role but without the guarantee of continuous employment at this level; however regular performance reviews will take place to ensure team and individual development continues and that each player has an equal opportunity based on the selection criteria
  • On occasions players may also be asked to play 2nd team cricket after earlier 1st team selection based on the 1st team's requirements

Two Counties "C" Team

Primarily a "development" team for good young players consisting of senior players capable of offering skill and guidance to colt cricketers of good ability and with the potential to play higher standards in the future. Mainly plays it's games on a Sunday.

Two Counties 3rd Team

This team is also viewed as a further "development" team as above but giving opportunities for players to develop who cannot play on a Sunday. During periods of low level availability this team will pick from elsewhere including the Friendly team which may not play.

Friendly Team

It's primary role is to provide cricket to players who prefer and enjoy a less intensive style of game to league cricket or who cannot meet the selection criteria required for regular league cricket. It is considered appropriate that (as above) during periods of low level availability this team will not play but players will be considered for the TC Div 9 side.
